Wonju Municipal Chorus was founded in 1988 and paved its way by conductor Jeong Nam Gyu in 1997, and reorganized as professional chorus in 2006. It hosts regular, special and invitation concert about 60 times every year, and put its effort to let citizen who are not easy to get access to music and give them various cultural benefits by hosting visiting concert.

Wonju Municipal Chorus proposes new paradigm to Korean Chorus with the unique clear sound of Korean chorus and deep echo of European chorus combined together. They wonderfully perform the wide range of Renaissance, Baroque, classic and modern music based on such fresh chorus sound, and the unique musical interpretation of conductor Jung adds up to this and is evaluated by many musical fans and experts as "one and only Korea Chorus which performs authentic Northen European Chorus".

Wonju Municipal Chorus has played its role to widen the range of chorus music to movie by recording the movie OST and appearing in movie <Harmony> which is about chorus, and was invited to the largest Chorus festival in Korea, the "Korea Chorus Festival" 8 times in a row from 2007 to 2014. Also, the chorus was invited to 2014 IFCM World Chorus Symposium and was mentioned as noticeable choir in world's renowned church music journal [Choir & Organ], and received a praise that it is a chorus well harmonizing Korean and Western chorus sound.

Despite its short history, the reason that Wonju Municipal Chorus was able to improve fast can be found in passion of conductor toward chorus, passion of the members and infinite energy. Also, based on their passion to learn about chorus, they invite famous conductor for concert twice a year to learn experience and know-how of conductor. They are always devoted to the improvement and development of Chorus.
